New Lens is Blurry – Canon Powershot G7?

I don’t know much about camera’s or lenses. I have a Canon Powershot G7. No water damage, hasn’t been dropped, the lens isn’t scratched. In fact, I’ve put a new Macro +4 lens on it, to try to get close-up images, but it just will not focus!
I have my camera set on SCN (scenic)/Portrait and set to Macro for closer images, but when I try to zoom into a target, the lens just will not focus. I’ve tried setting it to Auto and Landscape and still nothing.
When I take the new lens and adapter off, the camera takes excellent, crisp photo’s…I just want to be able to get really fine details, closer up. Can anyone help?

You can’t autofocus with a diopter on the lens. You need to put the camera on manual focus, and actually move the camera back and forth to find the proper focus point.
