Difference between telephoto and wide angle?

What is the difference between a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens. sounds like a stupid question but for some reason I am confused.

Telephoto is your typical zoom lens, that telescopes out. It’s for zooming close to things far away, (Nikkor 55-200mm Nikkor AF-S VR)

Wide Angle is less zoom, though some Wide angles have some zoom capabilites. (Nikkor 18-55mm AF-S VR)

Telephoto is to zoom in on far away objects, Wide Angle fits more into the frame. A telephoto might only get half a mountain range in the photo, but you can get very close to it. A wide angle can fit the whole mountain range, but wont get as close.
