What to do when I get dust/foreign objects on camera mirror?

Ive got a nikon d60. one night this past weekend while on vacation i was changing a lens near a fan and the next morning, i noticed some black dots while looking through the viewfinder. i tried wiping the mirror off with a lens cloth, but that just took away the objects and added more. Later on one of my relatives that is a photographer brought over some of that compressed “air”(the stuff that turns really cold when you shake it), and told me to blow off the mirror. I didn’t get a chance to use it until after he left, and after applying it to the mirror and the glass above that protects the sensor i reattached the lens and looking through the viewfinder it was tinted brown/black. taking the lens off it looked like the compressed “air” had condensed on the mirror and glass above it. I quickly wiped if off with the lens cloth. There are still a few dots of dust, what should I do to safely and cheaply (without taking it to a professional) clean off my camera mirror? thanks.

The easiest way is to just deal with the spots in your viewfinder. They won’t show up in your pictures. If you don’t like that, keep trying compressed air and microfiber cloth. Don’t shake the canned air and use light quick bursts while holding the camera mirror side down. Also make sure your cloth is free of dust and debris and make light passes. Too much pressure can damage the mirror mechanism.
There may also be dust in/on the prism and you are noticing that. That is harder to clean.
So yeah, I know it can be a distraction, but as long as it’s not on your images it doesn’t matter.
