How do you measure a camera lens?

There is a posting on ebay for a Bausch & Lomb Coated 8 1/4in. Large Format Lens. What is the diametor of this lens?

The FOCAL LENGTH is 8-1/4 inches, not the lens diameter which is actually 2-5/8″ or 67mm. This looks like a photocopier lens or a lens for an enlarger. Not a good picture taking lens.
