Sigma lens won’t work on Sony camera.Help?

Ok, I have a Sigma 75-300mm-AF lens and a Minolta Maxxum 9000. The Sigma lens will work on my Minolta but I also have a Sony alpha 200. When I put the Sigma lens on my Sony camera it fits fine but it doesn’t focus even if I put it on manual focus. All it says is No lens attached Shutter is locked. Is there some kind of adapter or something I can do? please help.

Some of the early Sigma lenses needed re-chipping to work on the Sony Alpha system. Unfortunately the Sigma company ran out of the chips a year or two back. The lens can still be used in manual mode, but not auto-focus. There are very few Sigma lenses with this problem, but one way or another most of them seem to wind up on eBay. You need to always check a Sigma lens on your camera before buying it. If you go onto the Dyxum web site and search on Sigma re-chipping you will find a guy who will still re-chip them for you using custom chips. http://www.dyxum.com
